1st Session is UNDERWAY!

At long last, the summer of 2015/5775, Camp Stein’s 40th summer, has BEGUN!  More than 140 campers arrived at camp on Monday, June 8th, ready to embark on another “Summer of a Lifetime!”

All campers arrived at camp by 12:30pm. After a quick welcome, counselors were introduced to their campers, and they had a picnic lunch outside somewhere on the beautiful property, with just their cabin community.  Old friendships were being Pic 1renewed while new friendships were already starting to form. The afternoon continued with a health center check-in, swim testing, and unpacking and settling in. After a delicious dinner in the Chadar Ochel (Dining Hall), we experienced our first outdoor Evening T’filah service of the session.  The Evening Program that followed, created by a group of staff known as the “Cornerstone Fellows,” was an Olympic Style Opening Ceremony, where each cabin had the task of creating a banner and cheer that exemplified who they were. As the Olympic music played in the background, a “Parade of Cabins” was held all over camp, followed by a presentation of every banner and cheer.  The night concluded with the introduction of the “Nightly Ritual,” something that will happen every night either by unit or by all of camp, as a way to officially bring the day to a close.  This summer’s Nightly Ritual is the singing of a beautiful version of the prayer Hashkiveinu.  Seeing each cabin group standing/sitting, with arms around each other, singing this prayer was truly something magical.

With camp underway, it’s time for the fun to continue! More updates to come……….
