Stefani Rozen joins our camp community as the Director of Camp Stein, building on a twenty-year career as a Jewish communal professional. Prior to moving to Arizona, she was Chief Program Officer at University of Florida Hillel, working with students to create a meaningful Jewish community experience on campus. Before that, Stefani spent 13 years on the professional team at URJ Greene Family Camp in Texas, a Reform Jewish summer camp serving the communities of Texas and Oklahoma.

Stefani is a native of Corpus Christi, Texas, and proudly attended The University of Texas at Austin, earning a BA in Jewish Studies. Following graduation, she coordinated social justice seminars for the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism in Washington, DC. Her professional journey continued as she returned to her childhood camp as an assistant director on the full-time team, then summer camp director of URJ Greene Family Camp. Stefani holds a Master’s degree in Camp Administration and Leadership. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, going for walks, and spending time with family and friends. Stefani and her miniature goldendoodle, Lolli, are excited to join the community at Congregation Beth Israel and Camp Stein.

Favorite Camp Meal: Shabbat dinner OR Baked Potato bar
Favorite Camp Activity: Tennis (she was a tennis specialist in her own camp counselor era)
Advice to Campers & Staff: Make the most of every day; appreciate each moment, remember to laugh, and try to make someone else smile.

Jennifer Walker

Jennifer Walker was born in Scottsdale, AZ and has spent most of her life living in the Phoenix area. Her first summer at camp was in 2011 as a Rishonim counselor.  Jennifer was thrilled to join the year round team in 2018 as our Assistant Director.

Jennifer received her BS in Family and Human Development from Arizona State University in 2014 and completed her MSW from ASU in 2018. Since her first year as a Rishonim Counselor, she has filled many roles on our leadership team as a unit head, Ozrim Director, Big Trip Unit Head and Inclusion Coordinator. Jennifer has also spent time working in the Jewish community in Phoenix as a Youth Group Director, Preschool Teacher, Religious School Teacher and as the Religious School Program Administrator at CBI. Jennifer loves working with kids and being able to build lifelong connections with campers and staff.

When not at camp, Jennifer enjoys traveling, playing with dogs, going to concerts, being outside, reading and spending time with her friends and family.

Rabbi Sara Mason-Barkin

Rabbi Sara Mason-Barkin

Rabbi & Executive Educator

 

Rabbi Sara Mason-Barkin was ordained from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in May, 2010, after receiving her master’s Degree in Jewish Education in 2008. Prior to her studies at the Hebrew Union College, Sara earned her bachelor’s Degree from Brandeis University in Sociology and Judaic Studies.

Rabbi Mason-Barkin began her career as an educator in a Jewish day school. While teaching, Sara discovered a passion for helping people of all ages find meaningful moments of Jewish connection in their own lives. This dedication to pursuing further work in the field of Jewish education led her to Jerusalem, where she began her rabbinical studies.

Originally from Buffalo, New York, Rabbi Mason-Barkin has spent significant time in Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Rabbi Mason-Barkin lives with her family, three children, Charlie, Sela and Milo.

Brian Schanerman

Brian has spent over 25 wonderful summers at Camp Stein. Born in Brooklyn, New York (go, Mets!), Brian has lived in the Ahwatukee area of Phoenix for over 40 years.  Brian enjoyed a long career as a public school teacher in the Kyrene School District (35 years teaching middle school math.) He enjoys car racing and frequenting car shows, going to ASU Sun Devils football games with his son Ben, and spending time with his wife Susan, who happens to be the rabbi at Temple Brith Shalom in Prescott.

As rentals & retreats manager and summer assistant director, he looks forward to sharing his love of camping with our community.
