Hi, everyone! It’s time for an update from Camp Stein’s 8th and 9th graders! This past week, the campers and staff of Chavurah travelled to Camp Verde for our 2-night, 3-day overnight extravaganza. We arrived at the campsite on Tuesday evening ready for some stargazing, s’mores, and exploring. Upon arrival, everyone helped to set up camp and prepare a delicious meal of pita pizzas. After dinner, we made banana boats, which involves making a slit in a banana, filling it with chocolate and marshmallows, wrapping it in tin foil, and cooking it in a campfire for a few minutes. It was a delicious start to our camping trip! We ended the night with an evening program that brought all of us together and showed us how much we all truly have in common.

The next morning, we awoke and headed to the Verde River where half the group kayaked while the other half played in the river and explored ancient Native American cave dwellings. Both were incredible! We all came together for lunch and shared chicken wraps, stories, and adventures of that morning. Next, the groups switched activities so that by the end of the day, everyone had kayaked down the Verde River and had a chance to explore the cave dwellings. After our day’s adventures, we returned to the campsite ready for cookout. We laughed and talked and played games, and ended a beautiful day full of adventures with some good old s’mores. Falling asleep beneath the stars was the cherry on top to a wonderful, exciting overnight trip!

The next morning, campers and staff chowed down on some breakfast burritos, packed up the campsite, and headed back to camp! It was a wonderful trip and I’m so happy that I’ve had the opportunity to get to know such incredible campers and staff.
