Chavurah Enjoys Their Overnight

Written by Rachel Goldschmidt

Tuesday, June 23, 2015 was the day we left for our overnight.  We said goodbye to our fellow campers and counselors who couldn’t come.  This overnight will probably go down in my books as the best overnight!

The day we left we took a charter bus to our campsite in Flagstaff.  From there we put out our tarps and sleeping bags.  After that we had a couple of hours to play around.  When it was time for dinner, our staff took us to a nearby lake, where we saw the sky light up pinkish orange from the sunset.  Later that evening, we had s’mores and learned about constellations.  We sang the “Hashkiveinu” and went to bed.image1

The next day we woke up to freshly made pancakes.  After breakfast, we hurried to get dressed and ready for the Grand Canyon trip.  Then we took our charter bus to a nearby McDonald’s and got into our jeep tours.  The jeep tours took us through a forest and into the Grand Canyon.  There we took a lot of pictures, hiked down a trail and learned about rock formations.  After lunch we left the Grand Canyon and headed back to our campsite.  Later that night, we learned about starts for our evening program.  After the evening program, we went to bed.

The next morning we woke up early to pack up since we were leaving.  The Lava Tubes are long tubes in the ground made by flowing lava.  We were surprised by them because it was so cold and in the middle of a forest.  After the Lava Tubes, we left to go to the Arboretum.  At the Arboretum, we ate lunch and watched a show about birds of prey.  After that, we left for camp.
