To get the experience of camping with a sleeping bag in a tent and not in a cabin with beds, all of Rishonim went on a 15 hour overnight to Lynx Lake in Prescott, Arizona. We loaded the buses at 4:15 and were on the road by 4:30. We reached our campsite by 5 pm and sent the kids off on a hike led by some of the counselors while the rest of the staff stayed back to pitch the tents and make dinner. The hike lasted around an hour, and when they got back to the campsite, they set up all of their belongings in their assigned tents.
Dinner was spaghetti with meat sauce and there was plenty to go around. After dinner, we all hung out under the ramada and played Charades as well as the Song Game. Our song-leader then drove from Camp Stein to our campsite so we could have services around the campfire. After services, our songleader stayed around playing campfire songs while the kids roasted marshmallows for s’mores. By this time, it was pretty late (9:30) so we sent the kids to get their pajamas on and brush their teeth.
When camping, when the sun is up, you’re up. So, low and behold, a little after 6 am the kids were starting to wake up and rustle around in their tents. At 6:30 everyone was up and packing up their stuff. We had bagels for breakfast and the bus showed up at 7:30 to bring us back to camp just in time for a camp breakfast of pancakes.
